Climbing The Wall

Climbing The Wall

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Sometimes despite our best efforts we do not control love.

"

Uncontrolled,

love is like an ice axe.

You use your skill,

your wrist action,

to bury it

deep enough

to give a steady purchase.

To allow you to pull

yourself higher

up the cliff face.

Slowly

you move towards

the summit,

knowing,

if you put one foot wrong,

if your axe does not bite

deep enough,

you might

plummet

back to earth.

Sometimes

one swift tap

leaves you secure,

sometimes

you swing frenetically

trying to get a firm grip.

But always,

always

you have a fear

of falling.

how true .. no controlling it ..that deep mystery of love ... interesting analogy with the ice pick and ice mountain ... creates a sharp contrast .. as love can be so fiery and heated :) insecurity wreaks havoc in our brains and hearts as we try "frenetically" to stay with it ... the "fall" in your closing can be failure in the climb .. but .. it can also be the giving up of that control .. and falling off the ice and truly in love .. oh my ... oh my :)))))))))))))))

I did some free-climbing in my time. Once or twice. Found places where there was no footing. Hope and prayer, sometime, we need.
"But always,
always
you have a fear
of falling."
The above lines is true for many things. Thank you John for sharing the amazing poetry.

When I was young, I was braver my friend.
I read fear of falling as fear of failing on the first read. Good metaphor here John. Many have died on the slopes of love and that includes far too many women. It is so precarious, it makes you wonder why so many risk it. A little bit of heaven and a whole load of hell :) Have a very happy Friday.

You and me both bro Jacob! Many thanks for attempting the climb though as many just don't bother.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
