Mother Queen

Mother Queen

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

The Second Elizabethan era ended.

"

Your Majesty,

I never thought you would die.

Well I did, you were ninety-six

and I had watched you age,

watched you go grey,

develop a stoop,

watched you shrink

and become less mobile.

You reminded me of my own mother,

who was so like you,

both in looks and in her devoted

service to her family.

I watched her go grey too,

watched her develop a stoop,

watched her shrink

and fade under the scalpel

that was meant to excise her cancer.

May you both rest in peace.

Thank you Sami
This oozes with sadness, sincerity, and respect for two Mothers who were both Queens in your eyes.
