Chapter 1:
Getting the team together

~ Samuel ~

Please find one more agent, please, Is what I thought. If we were to be turned down then I don’t know what to do, this is our last chance to escape fate. “It’ll be alright Sam, the headmistress is my cousin, and she’ll take us in for sure.” My best friend Chris had said, a failed attempt to ease my thoughts, I smiled in reply trying to make it seem as though his words have finally gotten through to me " a failed attempt on my side as well.

Ah! Sorry, my name is Samuel and I have ran away from home with my best friend Chris. Before I tell you where I am its only reasonable I tell you how I got here in the first place. I am the only son of a very wealthy family and the heir of the family business, you would think being from a rich family I don’t get to see my parents often but I do. My parents are Fair and let me have the things I deserve, you would think being brought up the way I was there be no way I would want to run away but… the truth is my parents are murders - no, they don’t go out their way to kill people themselves.

They blackmail people for murder, it’s easy since we’re shape shifters. In case you don’t know what that is, shape shifters are people who can change their appearance and look like someone else. I guess you can say my parents are mobsters? Anyway other shape shifters came to my parents for work, they would shift into the soon-to-be ‘murder’ and kill the target in public and well you can put the rest together.

What started as a little “hobby”, like my parents like to say, turned into this horrible thing and because of this my parents have basically ruin the name of any type of shape shifter out there. I never really mind the family business until someone put a hit out on one of close friends Cody, who is now on death row for killing his entire family at the park with a M-16 that he had stole from a pawnshop. I tried helping Cody, but he blamed me for everything, I tried explaining to him I had no idea this happened and I even tried making my parents help but it was all for naught. Seeing first hand at what my parents have been doing for the past 80 years, shape shifters live for a long time too by the way, the last thing I want is become heir to that madness so I ran away.

But I didn't run away just anywhere I ran to the one place that could bring my parents to justice, A.S.O an academy where they deal with people like my parents, but I wouldn't have been able to get this far without the help of my best friend Chris. Chris and I have known each other ever since we were little, Chris isn't a shifter like me he’s a…I’m trying to think of a less corny word than wizard but I can’t; just like me Chris is an only child from a wealthy family, expect for the fact that his parents aren't murders, they just like to learn more about magic and keep that information to themselves like any other mage family you would run into.

Chris ran away with me because he wanted to learn how to use his magic, of course his parents would only let him learn so much but that’s all I know about Chris wanting to run away, he doesn't talk about his family much just that he wanted to learn more about magic from his aunt, the headmistress of A.S.O but his parents always forbid him from meeting her but all the more reason for him to meet her no?

How Chris and I ran away was a miracle, without the help from his servants we would have been caught in no time, which is why I’m so nervous we should have been caught but we weren't " not yet anyway. Until we’re official agents for A.S.O I can’t calm down. The sound of the door opening and closing broke the silence in the room and caused Chris and I to turn our heads expecting to see the headmistress again.

Instead was a girl around the same age as us, she was beautiful yet freighting her hair reminded me of the sea at night pitch black and the long smooth curls were the waves brushing together unsure where to go, she was wearing dark green khaki shorts with a pair of black vans, she wore a t-shirt that had a weird looking ice cream mascot on it. Her face was small, her eyes were a very light brown kind of color, which almost didn't seem real but was.

I turned to look at Chris to see what he thought of her. He looked as though he was staring at an angel, I looked away from him kind of grossed out since I've never see him look at a girl like that because all he ever focused on was his magic. I turned back to look at the girl " who was staring back at Chris, great Chris has a little crush she probably does too I thought to myself, Chris was always the one getting the girls - not that i’m not good-looking but he had always had the allure I never had, I was just the sidekick. Almost as if she could hear my thoughts the girl broke her gaze from Chris and looked at me but this time she spoke “Hello, I’m your new teammate Amelia,” she walked up to me, I got up quickly to shake her hand “ welcome to A.S.O.”
