Oh People, My People

I am reposting this poem I wrote 8 years ago. In my mind we have gone from bad to worse.

America the Beautiful!
Like a ship lost at sea
set adrift in a raging storm
no land in sight for thee.

Hail to the chief!
Whoever that might be
your children led like lambs to slaughter
no hope for them I see.

Oh people, my people!
Open up your eyes and see
the false prophet who leads you there
cares not for you and me.

I think your words ring true not only for he who leads your country but for many others to. Tis a very sad state of affairs that people go into public office only to feather their own nests and have their egos massaged by fawning yes men and women.

Yes, a very sad state of affairs. We can only hope that they fizzle out quickly and cause as little damage as possible. These are indeed scary times we are living in. It’s nice to have a safe place like the Cafe to come to and express our thoughts. Thanks so much for dropping by. :-)

Oh my.. these words seem familiar, writing more than first class but oh those emotions, fear, tragedy and wholesale repetition. Is said that the wisest man to be an honest leader is too wise and honest to be one.

This post pulls me down on what's quite a starry night. but one by one by infinitum the hot air coming from idiot mouths will blow the night into pitch darkness

Your image of the hot air blowing the night into pitch darkness its spot on. When I first wrote this poem I had no idea that things would be 100 times worse. I am just waiting for the billionaires with their egos combust. This just can’t be real. Pray that it will eventually pass. Thank you for sharing your keen insight Emma.

More relevant today and scary on so many fronts...

Yes it is! One feels helpless to stop it but I realize that keeping silent is not the answer. We can only hope that the ‘grown ups’ in the room start speaking out. I think both sides (parties) are guilty of compliance and need to do more but ultimately it may be up to the people to prevail. Speak up, protest, vote when called upon. Dear Dara, written eight years ago and yet even more relevant today. I fear you are in for a rough ride, as we are in the UK. When we end up with Leaders who divide rather than unite, trouble looms. Nicely composed stanzas.

Yes, that is so true Chris and the rich keep getting richer with no empathy for others in less fortunate situations. I think of all the service men and women who fought to keep dictators and authoritarianism at bay and now we are finding it in our own backyard. It’s so sad. There is no false prophet who wrote this poem...this prophet saw something 8 years ago that has become such an evil reality...
Lambs to the slaughter...like that poor 11 year old girl who committed suicide.
Led to the slaughter by fear of the raging storm that rules us now. Good poetry is timeless...as Macleash wrote in Ars Poetic, "" a moment in time as the moon climbs"---

Thank you so much, Jacob, for your wonderful, supportive words. I hesitated for a minute to repost it but I fear many of us have almost become immune to the abuse of power that seems to be going on. The evil rhetoric is intolerable in and of its own. I keep hoping for a better day and keep praying there will be. Take care!
