Peace After Relentless Tears

Peace After Relentless Tears

A Poem by Tatiana Raudales

Glittering transparent drops
Cascade down soft cheeks
Traveling down the curves
Of her beautiful face
Until it reaches her chin
And falls down

Down, down, down
The drop falls
Into a forming puddle
Of cleansing tears
She sniffles, breathing deeply
That lump in her throat
Keeps her from speaking out

A weight is lifted off her chest
As she breathes in deeply
Taking in the beauty of this morning
Smelling the aroma of freshly scrambled eggs
That awaited her in the dining room

She smiles to herself
Thinking how silly she was to cry
Over someone who did not value her
Or ever believed her when she spoke truths
She went to wipe away her tears
But instead felt the touch of soft flower petals

The same way tears cascaded down
Lay a gentle waterfall of white lilies
Softer than silk and smelled sweeter
Than her salty tears
"What is this?" she said to herself
But before she could look around
She heard a gentle voice whisper

"Peace."
