Fire-Feeding

Fire-Feeding

A Poem by Patrick O'Boyle
"

Streamed words from my lips...From paper, to embers, to air

"
I feed the flames with words unspoken,
And give the embers hope.
Sighing and coughing it slowly burns itself dry,
Cursing damnation upon its first spark.

I hear their howling through the chimney,
The tired screams that strayed from the mind.
Foregone irrelevancies that waltzed onto paper,
Only to shrivel in this self-immolation.

Regret seemingly radiates such warmth,
Simultaneously making worlds convulse.
Their caustic final breaths,
Fire-feeding.
