Thirst

Thirst

A Poem by Sophie B.

Mouth as dry as a desert

Thoughts consumed by water, yearning for water, at least a squirt

Heat overcomes me

Every inch of me burning as my heartrate increases to a much higher degree

Skin shriveled due to lack of blood flow

Dizziness and pre-syncope start to grow

I fall to the floor

Waiting for either the sweet embrace of death or a savior, the outcome no longer mattered to me anymore

Meanwhile my bowel loses oxygen and begins to die

Just to allow other organs to stay alive

The function of my kidneys do cease

Toxins build up and the chance of death does increase

In time to save my life

Someone rehydrates and saves me, but this is not the end of the strife

The damage has been done

For again I am stuck out in the scorching sun

The memory of water and hydration haunting me

Before my luck turns and water again is something that I see

Again, and again the cycle goes

Until I have found a home where water is the only thing exposed
