Unedited Melancholy

Unedited Melancholy

A Poem by PatrickPink
"

I don't know if I miss intimacy or the wilderness more

"
Four grey walls
Make for a lonelier life
Than all the green expanses of
The earth.

I could wander them
Without another soul for company
And I'd feel less alone

For we are grey here;
Where mountains have features
These faces are smooth
Unrelenting and passive

The arms of trees
Would hold me more frequently
Than the people around me.

Wow this leaves such an empty, forlorn and desperate flavour. It is expressive and filled with images of someone wanting to escape but feeling so very alone. Stuck between two worlds, self and freedom and relying on another human for comfort.

Who wouldn't prefer the outdoors and nature over the company of uninterested and uncaring? it is hard to establish a connection in our surroundings if it is all gray. I hope it is only yours observations not your experiences that you are writing Patrick, relationships are a give and take, it is a two way street ... sometimes we don't get as much as we give!

An interesting look at loneliness, which can occur in the midst of a crowd. The speaker compares the green mountains and their features with the grey people with their passive faces. Loneliness is indeed a state of mind more than a location.
