I Thought I Stole A Moment

I Thought I Stole A Moment

A Poem by Paul Michael Kelly
"

a short reflection of an experience I once thought was wrong, but later came to the full acceptance of it's place in my life story

"

I thought I stole a moment

Took it from its hiding place

and held it in my hands

Afraid to let it go

As if it were an autumn leaf

whose fall would be its ending

It looked me in the eye

and told me of its history

All had passed it by

I was the first to find it

To look beneath the surface

and reach into its secret world

Appreciating what I saw there

and with an open heart

I decided to return it

Place it like a stone

back into the stream of time

But it told me not to do that

for it always had been mine

What a wonderful finish - and, in all honesty, a surprising one. Your poem drifts over time's observation - as should be when eyes look for and SEE inspiration at hand.
