Slumber in the Void

Slumber in the Void

A Poem by Pen Draggin'

I am all too painfully aware
at night
when the alarm clock glows an angry red,
blurred by my undeniable tears.
And a hurt that rises up and can't be stifled,
leaks out onto my pillowcase.
In the day there are things
like how funny names are
and how the weather is
that keep me from this.
But when you lie here next to me
the hurt is lost inside,
spread out into every single blood cell.
In the void between us
there is so much that you should be saying
and I still wait for it, painfully aware
at night.

This is completely brilliant, dear. Although sad and a story of hurt, it's still beautiful and a wonderful read.

I really love ending it with the repetition, "painfully aware at night." It's already such a strong piece, but that just lets it go out with a bang. The two indented lines in the center are perfect because if they weren't there - "In the day there are things that keep me from this." The line would still work great, but those extra example lines paint a better picture and add more insight. I love it dear...keep finding lost treasures.
