The Truth

The Truth

A Poem by Mr. Nemo

The issue with religion
does not begin with god.
It does not begin with hatred
towards jesus or moses.
It begins with the people
of a certain mindset.
The ones who judge me for having
bad habits seven days a week.
Theirs occur 6
however the seventh cleanses the past week.
A couple hail marys here and there
purify the tainted water.
I choose to not live a life of lies.
A life where a single prayer
will wipe away the lust from earlier.
I accept it.
They sit in the heathen woods
and judge the other visitors.
Visitors of the same land
they themselves are visiting.
But it's okay because there is always a Sunday.
The idea behind religion is acceptable.
It gives a sense of faith.
No one wants to disappear for good
with nothing to look forward too.
Religion provides a hope for that reason.
However, there is always that serpent
who takes advantage.
Uses those seven times seven hundred
forgiveness's once a week
to cover the past week.
Confess to a man just a guilty,
speak with the decider,
then commit the same sins as before
only to repeat 6 days later.
But I'm going to an imaginary place
because I call it a fable and a sham.
I'm being sent to a man on the ninth level of hell
while your priest is inside a little boy.
He's alright though
since he's a "man of god".
Spit at me for having a different view.
I'm not the one basing my life off of stories.
It gets to the point where people
only act holy for the reward.
They want the salvation without having to work.
So they put on a mask
and scream it's moses on the big boat.
And he brought 6 of every animal with him.
Then when someone points out the obvious flaws
they become defensive.
"Are you questioning my religious belief"
as if they know so much.
Once again it is us that are the villains.
Not the ones who are "apart" of the church
for their own greed.
It's okay.
I'll be the bigger man and back off.
Go have your fun while luke parts the red sea.
And before this is taken out of context.
Do not confuse the rotten apples with the entire tree.
It is not every religious person
who commits these sins.
However it only takes one to ruin it for all.
Ruin the perspective for others.
So let it be known that not all are to blame.
Just the ones choosing off the forbidden tree.

I am glad to see someone talk about this here, they sure do praise god enough here. There where lots of good points and you write in such a way that it's effortless to read, the only thing i wish it would have ended on a stronger note. But otherwise it's a fresh piece that offers the pov few consider.
