Letter to my own refractions

and in that ease and eve of the balconies where you left me

I staggered to my feet
wondering
trying to offer some understanding
trying to give my brush to a canon's palette
and then as if

searching from sin to sun
I dared to promise for love
and a billion other subtle things

But they never really scorched you
never quite the same
