Drowning

Drowning

A Poem by Ashes
"

It's just like drowning.

"

Again the warm feeling

of a hand around my throat

and body warmed water

to keep the whispering voices in my head

company for another night

One more breathe of passionless air

strong with the smell of your perfume and innocence

as you look down at a tainted version

of the child of yesterday

Cracked, chapped lips move

seconds later the plea comes out

begging you to let me drown

in the smoke of this illusionary town

that’s been colder without you

One more breathe of passionless air

as you look again at the tainted version

of yesterdays child

with tightened not-so-tainted eyes

(a sigh

a touch of heat, and salt water)

but you refuse
