There Is No Whole Left Here

There Is No Whole Left Here

A Poem by Phibby Venable

There is no whole left here to love,

no person ends with all the pieces

they began with.

Even the world loses her head and blows

particles into the past

When you say you love the whole of me

I remember the piece I buried at sea

I watch the movie of time erasing

parts you cannot glimpse, already freed.

I could name them but they would still lie

null and void of the intensity and parts

that rendered me a new woman

time and again, time and again -

until I became this person that smiles

as a thousand loves battle

an excess of memory -

a thousand griefs whimper in the corner

startled from a dark menagerie

Love only this piece of me I unv.eil

into only this time

where I am a bit of laughter

starting anew -

a warm but sensible woman

focused simply on you.

stunning and sensual piece - simple and so profound
to be said we are loved whole, it really does seem like an impossibility since we will change from the whole of ourselves at the present - we were not the same whole of the past and the whole of the future evolves
what we focus on is the whole love entertwining together - a whole new love.

This is a beautiful piece, which each time I read it, I come away with something more. I hate to speculate on pieces of myself that have been lost through love. Even in loss there is learning, growth and hopeful more understanding for oneself and for the other person. Each of us are evolving and changing, hopefully for the better through experience. Love, a feeling and a decision. One owns that feeling and the expectations, consequences, and desires that may come out of it. If you can love freely without expectation or act on desire, then it is truly an unconditional love... and given without regret.

I'm a bit reluctant to meditate over the lost part of my existence when what is yet to come is so profound. This is wonderful for so many more reasons that lost times are not what I care to meditate on. Having said that let me also say that the "Sensible woman" I know you to be is something I would spend a lifetime meditating on. It's like eating a Dougnut. The hole is empty of thought but to get to the whole you must enjoy the sweetness of life. Stunning and sensual this piece truely is but like scratching the cover of a book without having read the rest of your work here on the Cafee leaves a lot yet to be desired. Great write

It sounds like a long and tortuous road from
the first innocent affection to the age of
wisdom, permanence and reality.
I hope it works properly this time and you
emerge each day as fresh and beautiful as
you began with hope and laughter.
Beautiful poem, a little sad, but full of hope
and laughter. Exquisite.

when I think of all the holes I have, and how the whole is missing pieces . . . I am a little sad for what is lost, but your ending of the warm but sensible woman is just perfect
