A Butterfly Wing

A Butterfly Wing

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Feeling dejected and alone,

I was sitting on my own

When a single butterfly wing

Made its way to my shoulder’s sleeve.

I feel so small

While all else seems so tall.

What’s out of my reach

Seems to be a lesson to teach.

Floating down from nowhere,

It came just to be there.

Such a small thing;

A butterfly wing.

I couldn’t help but wonder,

Yes, to ponder

Where the other half had flown.

This I had wanted to know.

Sitting in the sunshine

With this weary heart of mine,

I looked up at the great big sky

And thought of the butterfly.

Perhaps it too, felt small,

And yet, had answered the call.

Maybe someone else’s sleeve

Needed a butterfly wing.

This touched my heart so pure, so well thought out and delivered,
if you would have told me this morning that I would be so touched
by a poem written about a butterfly, I would have smiled and said
" you never know " great write my friend, thanks for sharing and
b-blessed!
