My Sleeping Eyes

My Sleeping Eyes

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

O the places I see,

O the places I go.

What a journey

My mind unfolds.

The waves lap at my feet

As I stand by the seaside.

What a treat

For my sleeping eyes.

Beams of crystals shower me

As I’m beneath a waterfall.

The serenity, the peace,

The glory of it all.

Yes, I can climb the highest mountain

And touch the bluest sky.

I can drink from the purest fountain

From beneath my sleeping eyes.

Visiting places far away,

I can survey all of Italy,

Tasting its finest pasta plates

While breathing in the scene.

All this is good and true,

But what gets me by

Is when I am with you,
If only beneath my sleeping eyes.
