Ladybug on My Screen

Ladybug on My Screen

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Ladybug on My Screen

Ladybug on my screen,

What do you want to see?

Are you attracted to the light?

What shall I write?

Did you come to keep me company

As I type these keys?

Roaming across this template,

You’re in no haste.

Ladybug on my screen,

Do you contemplate the universe and what it means?

It must be nice to have no worries

About what you will be.

Perfectly content are you,

To stroll along this surface anew--

This surface I use to service

My deepest thoughts, as tears are rid.

Ladybug on my screen,

Why you choose to stay here with me

When you could fly anywhere, I do not know;

For I wish I could go.

But for now I am here in time,

Exploring the places in my mind.

And being content with what’s before me,

Like the ladybug on my screen.

This is so contemplative Melinda, and I am glad to have come across this piece by you. The ladybug is a metaphor and is your addressed to whom you're expressing your ruminations and bewilderments about yourself and this world. Very well expressed.

Best, M.

To me, ladybugs represent contentment; such a beautiful and harmless little critter. When I read the word screen I took it to mean your computer monitor screen. If I am ever in the middle of writing and a ladybug lands on MY screen I'll think of you and this magical write, and hope my poem turns out near as good as this one. Thanks for the read request, I'm happy I got a chance to review this piece. Great job! take care...dan

I enjoyed the poem. Made me remember the ladybug song of youth.
"Ladybug on my screen,
Why you choose to stay here with me
When you could fly anywhere, I do not know;
For I wish I could go."
Ladybugs are free to fly away and we are not. Would be nice to fly to unknown places. Thank you Melinda for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome Melinda.
This is such a fun write. This time of year, we start to see ladybugs in our house, which is very old wood frame. They nest underneath off in our attic during the winter. Then, we start to see them in the ceiling, and a fee brave ones glitter down to land on my books or even my hand. I have a stupid fondness for the little bugs and won't allow my husband to have the house sprayed until they are gone. I love conversation with them!
