Granting Myself Wings

Granting Myself Wings

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Granting Myself Wings

A bird in the sky

Soaring up high,

Content in where it’s going,

Flying through the air, its will showing.

Knowing no other way,

Its inner self is its stay.

It doesn’t give up,

When the wind is a bit much.

I long to be like the bird,

To sing a tune and be heard.

To know where I’m destined in life,

And unto every occasion, arise.

To be of a beautiful spirit,

Sensitive enough to the voice to hear it.

To overcome obstacles in front of me,

While recalling where I used to be.

I am destined for greatness,

For I am truly and wonderfully blessed.

Faith allows me to touch the sky

In these words I write.

Like the bird, there’s a wind at by back,

Gently pushing me, even in times I slack.

In pursuing my dreams,

I’m granting myself wings.

I like the simile...the human to the bird...

Needing to be free to fly...your words here definitely touch the sky.

A bird in flight is a wondrous thing. I especially like looking at larks ascending. We may not have wings to fly, but we have imagination and there are times when I use mine. I am reminded of the caged bird here. Nicely composed poem.
