The Weight of HateA Poem by Melinda McQueenThe Weight of Hate
It bogs you down Where true happiness isn’t found. Growing into bitterness, Afflicting the heart as a hornet’s nest.
So many people in this world, And there’s still the findings of pearls. Let not my heart give way To the weight of hate.
Too high a price, Too little time. May I only love And glorify the Lord above.
It can crawl into the heart And refuse to depart. Tugging at the soul irate Is the weight of hate.
A pregnant grey cloud That refuses to rain down. A clock that doesn’t tell time, Or a poet that doesn’t write.
It becomes master, And ends in disaster. What sad fate, The weight of hate.
So, I pledge to smile, And go the extra mile To love with all I am. To pick up those down.
May love have her perfect work, Through deed and in word. Love, better than rage, Lessens the weight of hate.
