A Campfire's Truce

A Campfire's Truce

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

A Campfire’s Truce

The fire aglow
with embers dancing slow.

The campers roasted marshmallows
which seemed to be swallowed whole.

Campfire stories told
by young and old.

Memories made
as stories relayed.

Together under the stars,
mingling beneath a sky dark.

A bond strengthened through
a campfire’s truce.

Everyone sung along,
to words of familiar songs.

Laughing and talking all night,
not a cellphone in sight.

Forgotten were cares of life,
gone if but a while was the strife.

A peace restored,
learning one another once more.

The air finally quiet,
resting after their hotdog diet.

Smiling faces look up at the starry view,
a campfire’s truce.
