Despite Her Storm

Despite Her Storm

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Despite Her Storm

The sky was angry,
lightning cut it in half.

The day dark, the air muggy

seemed under attack.

She closed the front door
from where she’d been watching the scene.

Dreary as it was, it was also captivating,

Yet on the closed door did she lean.

As turmoil wreaked outside,

a bigger storm roared in her.

Shaken by thoughts weighing on her heart,
seemingly bigger than the universe.

All the world seemed too much to bear,
as tears flowed down her cheeks.

Then, she realized that the sun shone
through the window’s curtain sheets.

She released a sigh, saying to herself,

“At least the storm’s passed.”

Wiping her tears,
the door she unleashed.

Upon opening the door, she was surprised,
for the weather was still gloomy and dark.

The sun nowhere to be found,
and grey clouds had yet to part.

Turning to the window,
though no longer lit, she felt no harm.

Suddenly, she felt at peace
despite her storm.

the light of day comes in curious forms doesn't it McQueen!? my Lord in His great mercy and grace will flow through our openness any way He can ... that's what this poem makes me think of. we are made for the storms eh!? made to stand unafraid with Faith Hope and Charity... I know that is so old it is dismissed by many as a cliché ... but it is as true as the earth turns and gravity keeps us on the ground... love where your poem takes me .. you have a very easy, natural way in your poetry/prose writing.
