A Beach of a Dream

A Beach of a Dream

A Beach of a Dream

The walk was long,
but well worth it.

It’s been quite a while
since she’s seen his face lit.

She tries to recall the features
which was his alone,
but his looks are becoming blurred
and a bit harder for her mind to behold.

But oh how she remembers
everything about the guy.

From his grin to his sincerity.

He was the love of her life.

Where was he?

Halfway across the world?

She remembers when

she was his girl.

Walking along the beach,
she sees an image walking towards her.

Her mind claimed it as he.
Her heart raced, everything inside her stirred.

Daring not to pick up speed,
she kept a slow gait.

Could it be?

She strained to see his face.

The more she walked,
the further the image backed away.

It wasn’t he,
no matter how much she prayed.

Strong depiction of the way we remember someone who's missing from our lives -- how the memories will waver in & out with uncertainty. You show that, along with the emotion one might feel, such as -- oh no! I can't remember! But then later I can. Your poem puts that across palpably (((HUGS)))

Exactly! Thanks for reading. I appreciate you! ((((((HUGS)))))
Sometimes we can be mistaken. I saw a chap a few years ago walking away from me, who looked like My Dad. I knew it wasn't my Dad because my Dad passed years before. However my heart beat quickened and I wanted to run after him. Your poem reminded me of the disappointment I felt. I like happy endings too Melinda.

Yeah I do know that feeling. Thank you for reading and leaving your words for me.
My heart sank with the delivery of your last verse. I imagined her running towards him, and him lifting her up off the sand. I'm such a sucker for a happy ending!

I love happy endings, too. But it doesn't always turn out that way.
