In the Nighttime Hour

In the Nighttime Hour

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

In the Nighttime Hour

Dark shadows creep.

Fear’s scrawny hands attempt to strangle,

Rearing the head of appending danger.

Awaiting to reap,

It craves to enter the heart,

Wishing to wreak havoc in the soul

Is its demeaning goal

In the nighttime hour, to embark.

But my faith crushes fear,

Turning it on its demented head.

For my God is bigger than anything you dish,

And I know He will see me through

Just like He always has.

So, fear… I’m not afraid of you!

You are welcome dear Melinda.
I love seeing a spooky Halloween-themed storytelling poem with a spiritual twist at the end! I don't think I've seen the two ideas blended in a poem at all, but definitely not this smoothly & effectively. This is strong imaginative writing & it opens up the genre of Halloween writing to more & more fun & meaning (((HUGS)))
