When Jesus Fed the Multitude

When Jesus Fed the Multitude

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

When Jesus Fed the Multitude

John 6: 1-15

His lunch was packed
by his mother without lack.

She prepared the food
for her little boy to use.

The lad, grateful for her supplying,
for on the food was he relying.

Though he could have never imagined
that he was the provision sent.

Seeing His miraculous signs,
a crowd followed Jesus far and wide.

Climbing a hill, He sat with His disciples around,
then, He saw the approaching crowd.

“Where can we buy bread to feed all these?”

He tested Philip, for Jesus knew what it would be.

Philip replied, “Even if we worked months on end,
we still wouldn’t have enough money to feed all these men!”

Then, Andrew spoke up and told,

“There’s a young boy with two fish and five barley loaves.

But what good is that with such a crowd?”

Having it planned out,

Jesus knowingly readied Himself
to nourish all to health.

“Tell everyone to sit down.” He said and they did so,
all the people perched on a grassy slope.

Were they filled with hope?

Taking the loaves, He gave thanks to God,
and the disciples distributed it to the flock.

Then, likewise with the fish,
and about five thousand were nourished.

Afterward, He told his disciples to gather what was left
so none was wasted; twelve baskets full of the wealth.

Seeing the miracle, they exclaimed,

“This is the Prophet whom we have been in wait!”

When Jesus saw they were ready to force Him to be king of their own,

He went to the wilderness to be alone.

O what a miracle came to be,
when a mother packed a lunch complete.

She hadn’t a clue
how her provision would be used.

The little boy’s lunch
fed a whole bunch!

So, be on the lookout,
as you may be the answer somehow.
Just one more story great and true,
of when Jesus fed the multitude.

I enjoyed reading this. It is so refreshing to find faith and praise still alive in today's world. I particularly loved the observation "he was the provision sent." What man proposes, God disposes. Or as my dear daddy would have said, "If you want to hear God laugh...tell Him your plans." This was well crafted. I enjoyed the read.
