Like the Eagle in the Sky

Like the Eagle in the Sky

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Like the Eagle in the Sky

The chilly breeze assaulted her,

As the fresh ocean air

Filled her cried-out, over worked lungs.

Her heart, full of despair.

An enormous weight she carried,

Not knowing she’d done so.

Her small steps labored, but somehow

She remained on her toes.

Lost so, and feeling all alone,

A cold wind assailed her.

Hugging herself tightly against

The bitter chill of words.

Longing to escape from the chains

That have so entrapped her,

Her tears were a true testament

To her heart’s mournful yearn.

Suddenly, an eagle flying

Caught her attention so.

Looking up she so wished to fly,

Where puffy clouds abode.

A calmness engulfed her senses

When an inner voice spoke.

She knew she was given much grace,

And was never alone.

Knowing her heart’s fervent prayer

Had been heard in the heights.

For her abundant dreams would soar

Like the eagle in the great sky
