Expectations

Expectations

A Poem by Ron Sen

Expectations in life,

Only bring strife.

Within yourself,

You ask “Why did I help?”

You expect gratitude,

You think that should be the attitude.

You expect others to return your help,

Through such thoughts you hurt yourself.

You think “What will I get for what I have done?”

Remember to such questions there are answers none.

Expectations only increase pain,

As such thoughts are all in vain.

Expectations only burden your mind,

By which only unhappiness you find.

Caring for others is an act of the Divine,

So let go off I, me and mine.

You will get what you deserve,

If you have faith, happiness you will be able to preserve.

When you do for others, don’t expect any return,

Or else the mind with anger and frustration shall burn.

This you can do only when you have love for God,

You shall get blessings a plenty from the Lord.
