The Wolf's Den

The Wolf's Den

A Poem by Jack Cassidy

Majestic creature of the moon,
how radiant is your world.
Communing with each part of us,
in the sweet night you lay curled.

I sit close to your sharpened eyes,
with my hands thrown at your feet.
Warming your bones next to your kin,
while the pups are fast asleep.

My heart beats and thrashes about,
to every song you sing.
The panting of your deepened breath,
and each of the yips you bring.

Those dreams of peace are running wild,
for they still howl through the trees.
Swift as the rushing winds you hunt,
winding in the dark with ease.
