![]() IslandA Poem by Butch DecatoriaIsland
I have assimilated. A city boy now, with Borg-tough sensibilities Father of two, single of none To ease the dread of lonely Yet a collective to oversee & conquers Our demise like a rushing of glaciers Cold, inconsiderate, the morosely dim-witted Metamorphoses Our future trekking towards doom
Islands unable to shift the streams Watching eclipses, shadows imbue
I once could origami a paper boat To float " if not as buoyant as the real thing It can still tell my story Once you unfold it And if you read from the soaked Smearing of my worries If you unfold it See how once I dreamed I sailed on paper origami ships, Searching islands listening to dreamers Teaching the others How we float above it Liquid minutia of parable screams I have assimilated Futile to know any other way But to live and be An island Defined and surrounded by watery time Islands, For we are solid as the earth we keep Fertile for ourselves Underfoot…
On a stream overpowered By life’s inconsiderate industry Solid and steadfast even when The future is drowning in Defeat, Reality Killing what was once Our dream.
Fijian and pacific
Oceans
Waves
Undulations.
Your eyes and touch Floating lanterns.
Farewell.
Islands, All my lonely
