Drag/queen

Drag/queen

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

... he points his toes

stretches his swan neck smooth calves in fish-nets

to slip into stiletto heels

performance art of a deceptive nymph

... grace on fine-point tips - his gift - in stiletto heels,

it is almost as if floating across water

he practiced once before nature took over

a star in it's place ...

... It is her face when the night creates a cape

bourne with Van Gogh insufficed with self

she paints upon his face starry nights and water lillies

comparably museum worthy / immitation

yet like any other canvas

beneathe it could lie mistakes and disappointment

drafts of inspiration, cover-ups of cynicism

another creature - a creation unlike him

what was before

is unseen, but what if ...

... the truth and process to what presently one sees

or believes

could be / only an amateur attempt,

moments unfelt under layers

and layers of trials ...

would you wipe away Mona Lisa's secret?

her smile and devilishly wicked eyes?

just to uncover a blemished masterpiece

an ugly duckling underneathe that swan-lake

a gent

to evolve from broken eggshells

to become a song hummed & remembered

priceless history mural'd in time

all spoken thoughts

defined by how the flight of life embers

happiness pursuant to tender freedoms

it is the power of creativity / the spirit's ability

to overcome adversity

the art of divinity - that is

what he is practicing

                                 this swan in stiletto heels...

I've never read a poem on the subject before, and I am sure if I were to in the future, it wouldn't be nearly as beautiful as this one. Your words are so tender, almost like water lillies and swan feathers. This was so enchanting, so mystifying, so unique and gentle, I really have no words. After playing a part regularly, the need to imitate ceases after a while. I loved the Mona Lisa refrence.

This last verse strikes a small blow for all.. overcoming adversities .. we all have them . Drag/queens are fascinating people.. so many have the gift an art of imitating but after reading this i wonder if they are imitating or perhaps for that moment in time they are the person , rather they bring the person to life .. (this thinking of the ones who perform as Cher or Striesand, ect.) you gave this poem some great visuals and using the titles of paintings also is intriguing much like the drag queen's mystery and spell.
I enjoyed it very much . PF~

This is beautiful. I had to read it more than once to...take it all in but your style and lyricism and bitter, lovely, beautiful content has made this my new favourite piece of art in a long time...
Thank you for sharing that.
