A Switch

A Switch

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

there is no structure to change

no distinction from one desire

to the next,

it comes like a turn of a mood

to make quality

the role of adulthood

gather these bricks that break

each a definitive day

an arudous month

a cruel year

disillusionments

to stack like wailing walls

cemented together by familial joys

closest chosen friends

kind acquaintances

your humanity

your home...

all the contentment once had

lost to moments of excess

like a switch / a lamp lights a room

to regain the esteem of happy

the freedom of balance

the need to embody a life

there is no structure to change

just a switch

a revelation...
