Promise No Promises

Promise No Promises

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

"...promises are dealt out so easily these days--like welfare coupons to the neediest of hopeless

romancing an idiom of idiot buffet - wishes for mr. next-to-divorce and lotto riches..."

1.

Me: a domesticated demon, for all the wrong reasons

You: an unexpected Thursday, says hello, almost promises a lifetime

Me: tamed by idealistic ideas, ideals of love's bullshit

You: who keeps his heart in wallets, grows tired like an attention disorder

I even let you see me cry...

You offer friendship for your freedom,

I crave to scream to hate you

But I'm not angry

I understood

Time was Thirteen years off

Bad timing / bad excuses

But I'm not angry

I realized...

We only meet our future once,

Hopeless, I agree

Sometimes it walks away

with cups of your tears,

a piece of the beauty

that began sweetly in each other's eyes

Ending bitter in my hopeless chest

You: once my favored future

now just a past, numbing

I move on, hoping...

A future like a rescue,

Me: a burning child for love...

2.

I think I'll always

remember

first lips and erections,

his immersing arms

first charm

it's the best recollection

I have...once had

waking next to him,

finding him there...

Promises seem so easy to

You: who says goodbye without regret

but I'm not angry

I understand,

my world, my future;

dreams are still to come--as if a horizon

relinquished from a storm...

Me: a wishful runaway

looking, longing for a place, a home

Him: must promise no promises,

remembers to rescue me

from mistakes, and dulling pasts

calls me his future

                             with nothing asked...

I love the way its told from two views.
the style almost mimics that of a real relation ship.
very very talented...
