What I Make It to Be

What I Make It to Be

A Poem by Vincent Cuccolo

Quick note: I am using the words "vanity" and "arrogance" in a reckless-like manner, I'm not necessarily trying to convey myself in an egotistic light, if that makes any sense.

---------

Vanity drips from the cup of arrogance

A glass never fully drunk

But gorged

Overflowed

And I keep coming back for more

Another slip

Another fall

The bottomless pit doubles in length

These thoughts that lend me the knife

On the precipice of disaster

I’m better than this

Stronger than this

BUT I’M ONLY AS STRONG AS YOU MAKE ME

And you’re nowhere to be found

I hate what I’ve become

This creature of anguish

A beastly disgrace

That tips the scales everyday

In all the wrong ways

Maybe I don’t deserve you

But you’re still the light inside my eyes

Even if that light

Is only what I make it to be
