Above Us

Above Us

A Poem by Lee Edward
"

No description is really needed

"

Yes, ma’am
I am one of those
hopelessly enchanted
folks that runs free

and as the temperature
increases and the months
age I move faster and faster
until I’m running out of control

I am the soul free from
the tie of man or woman
God’s chosen
God’s own--

special creation
meant to make the
civilized feel more
at home in their own

expansive beliefs
of civilization
to make sure there
will always be

them and us
that’s me, I am both
I am us and I am them
I am one and all

My mind doesn’t separate well
so I make my way
around and across town
while the birds sing

and the people sleep
unwillingly giving into
their lovers, their liquors
Stars dancing in circles

Above us.
