Numb With Pain

Numb With Pain

A Poem by Possum63

Tears slide down my cheeks
But I’m not crying.
My chest hurts
But its distant.
My heart beats
But I can’t feel it.
Why? You made me numb with the pain.

You accuse, abuse and shout
I beg pray and plead
You want so much from me
Yet give nothing in return
But I don’t really care any more
Why? You made me numb with the pain.

I love you but don’t know why
You make me lose loved ones
Make me fight and argue with them
Not that you care
And not that it matters
Why? You made me numb with the pain.

My cheeks are now dry
Stained by the once shed tears
My chest no longer hurts
It’s just empty
My heart still beats
But not the once happy beat
Why? You made me numb with the pain.

I can relate to this peom. After a certain amount of abuse, people get used to it and stop acknowledging the unpleasant feelings. The emotion here and the repition of ideas help create the mood. Thank you.

I like the poem. After so much abuse. We will harden up and not allow any pain in. I like the way you told the story and the strong ending to the excellent poem.
