Poem For Christchurch. Stay Strong.

This poem was actually written last February after the second major earthquake that took far too many lives.

Crumbling, crashing, crushing.
Heartbreaking and devastating
Really, is it necessary?
Incredible heritage and beauty
Stolen by the violence of the beast
Tossed to the ground
Completely forgotten about in the path of destruction
Hurt and homeless, so many are left
Unsure what’s to come next, unsure when it will stop
Reality is harsh, it has no mercy
Caught in the fury of Mother Nature
How can we go on? I fear the pain is too much to take.

Enough is enough. We can’t take it any more.
Another body found, left to become more statistics
Ripped away from such a precious place all too soon
The country is overwhelmed and our thoughts are with you
Hoping and praying for you
Quitting isn’t an option; we will do our best for you
Until the ground becomes still once more
And we will support you, be strong for you
Keep going, don’t give up. We are behind you every step of the way
Everyone is saddened by Christchurch’s devastation but we will go on. For the heart of this country is strong and refuses to be worn down.
