The Nighttrain

The Nighttrain

A Poem by Evan Winslow

The Nighttrain flew calmly through the chasmous void,

gears entwined,

whimpers resounding,

through the ink of a bleary summer night.

The emptiness beckoned as the Loreli,

but,

with eyes shut to the distance of the fading ruby lights.

Specters of mechanical reverberations lingered to haunt the stretch of longing track.

Return again the Nighttrain,

fearful frequencies to desponding rails,

Gears do not whimper.
