Reminiscing

Reminiscing

A Poem by Tom Friel

"It is a wholesome and necessary thing

for us to turn again to the earth and in

the contemplation of her beauties to

know of wonder and humility."

- Rachel Carson

She was sitting sipping coffee
Along her breakfast nook with books
She was gazing out the window
Near the tapestry she'd hooked
She was thinking of the children
Who had come by yesterday
Thinking of their visit and how

She wished, they could have stayed

She stirred her coffee gently
With no plans for the day
She was wearing her favorite robe
Watching the cardinals start their day
She knew the daffodils needed planting
The winter winds were on their way
Oh, maybe tomorrow, she mused

The bulbs could wait another day

Just a touch of cream she added
As memories drifted through her day
The Autumn hues were looking lovely
As were the clouds lined in gray
The cat was purring, content in napping
Still a few cookies were on the tray

Reading glasses once lost were found
Woolgathering memories pass another day

This is a well written poem. It flowed nicely from start to finish. This is the first poem entered in my contest. Thanks Tom for you participation.
