Popcorn Strangers

Popcorn Strangers

A Poem by Tom Friel

I didn’t recognize her at first
It wasn’t until I
Noticed her sunglasses
I was then sure
It had to be her
By pure chance we were
Attending the same movie
By mere coincidence
We sat in the same row
And oddly enough
We both ordered
Popcorn
It was the perfect
Popcorn flick
Popping with action
Buttered with love
Salty with regrets
And there she was
Nibbling away
Oblivious to everything
Well, almost everything
Should I have said hello?
Maybe commented on the film?
It would have been
Neighborly
Oh well, she probably
Didn't recognise me
Without my
Sunglasses
