The Shadow On My Shoulder
There is an angel who sits upon my shoulder who goes by the name of Death...

A Poem by Tom Friel

Still no takers
Despite your colorful
Handwritten signs
Surrounding
The well worn lawn chair
In which you sit
Hoping someone stops by
And notices
A bargain when they see one
You yawn – and stare
And turn the page
Casually sipping
Lukewarm coffee
Oblivious to the frugal shopper
Checking out
Your modest goods
She approaches your space
Clutching her purse
Only to pause and turn away
You study her carefully
As she walks hurriedly to her car
You smile freely
And wait some more
Enjoying every minute
