I See Dead People

I See Dead People

A Poem by Tom Friel

“Your work is cliché”

Your teacher told you that
Years ago
You haven’t changed
How trite, how simple
Begging for attention
Is all one can say about
“I See Dead People”

But I do

I see gaunt lifeless faces
Faded eyes timelessly open
I see a beautiful woman
With a bullet through her forehead
(too much tv)
I see a young boy covered in dirt
Frightened to death
Alone and in the dark
Only he’s not dead

Not yet

More drugs
Less fever
Time will tell
Stay tuned
(how cliché’)
