Poetry is something so lovely

How does poetry do it?
My emotions sway with
Short words
Written beneath digital dust
In an app littered with fingerprints
With ever passing time
It remains
For no one but me
I read those words again
It's so nice
How can poetry be
Such a lovely thing?

I shall give you Emily Dickenson. I remember encountering this quote as an undergrad and loving it: "If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can warm me, I know that is poetry. If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry. These are the only ways I know it. Is there any other way?"

I think you two would have had much to talk about.

That's so nice of you to say! I wrote a poem somewhat similar to that quote in 2022 actually. I don't know if I'd post it here necessarily but yeah I agree with her!
