Fireflies

Fireflies

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I like you

With your silly face

The way you try to be the people’s savior

And the tears you cry because you can’t save them all

But you want to and that is what counts in life,

The intention.

I like you

Because you like me

Even when you don’t tell me

I know you do

Because I don’t think I am crazy enough to believe

That something as strong as this can just be mine alone

I like you

Like I adore the moon,

Which is even stronger now that I know

that you dream upon it at night

The stars can hold secrets and the supernovas can tell the truth

But in my case my secret is, that the truth I know is you.

And I like knowing that you are never leaving me

And the magic in my heart is that I knew that since the start

I like you

Because together we are fireflies

And I love the way the night sells you to me

and the people who live in the shadows know

That you are my Prince Charming

And your noble heart will accept my flawed spirit

Together we will scale the walls and fly through the clouds

For we can and should and we shall.
