Soon and wear a jacket

Soon and wear a jacket

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Sure enough, the sky has burst and the cold wet drops smeared my makeup

I have to admit, winter seems to have come before I thought it would

and I am not prepared, so not prepared.

I already miss the summer, the sunshine and seeing you by chance

Come back to me, my ever running dream lover

Talking to you in my sleep isn't enough on days like this, I want you here.

My life is a mix of torrid day dreams and silly reality

You fit in so nicely that I feel lost when you are not in front of me

No matter, I will still be here waiting with the patience of a saint

What else could I do, I am in love and that is what you do for love

You wait.

Just remember that I know how to sing for you , the I can't get your song out of my head some days.

and I know how to love you, the directions are scribbled on my brain like graffiti

and I certainly know what makes me happy, and that is the future with you.

And so on days like this I accept that I have to wait,

I do it better than you can possibly imagine

But in saying that I say this, don't be too long because it's getting colder here

July is far away and the grey sky is starting to take away your face from my mind

So hurry, bring the sunlight with you,

until then I will take you at your word and listen to the advice you gave me

When you said, "Soon and wear a jacket"
