I Don't Love You

I Don't Love You

A Poem by Simon Welsh
"

So sad, so characteristic.

"
When someone says ‘You’re the highlight of my day’
I wonder that it must be such a burden
Because when the doubt inside sows its seeds
there's no coming back from the pain

It's not love when feelings refuse to die
It's just a refusal of our better natures
I don't love you, I never did
but that doesn't mean I don't care

When a gesture is mistaken for affection
it's a bold mistake repeated many times
We're both so sad and that's the only thing
that ever really connected us

I don't want anyone
I don't want your love
I'm happier being miserable
because it's a fixed state of affairs

I want to be the postscript to your forgotten Sundays

Miserable and happy in ones loneliness. A sad but beautiful write.

But Are you sure you dont ?
Or is it a bad memory which stops you from loving that person :) ?
This was a very nicely framed context of some of the very natural feelings.

I love the way you put your sentence structures and stanzas together to paint such a melancholy picture.
But there is so much truth in your poem and raw emotion.

This was quite sad... This sounds to me like my first love...he fell into this depression where he claimed that he didn't love anyone or anything, and that was the end of our relationship. It wasn't the case, because some time later I learned that he really did love me, but he was in a state that wouldn't allow him to express or emote. Anyway, that is what this reminded me of...someone who is intentionally pushing away the idea of affection and love for other reasons.

I like the last line the best in this piece...very strong and creative.

"I'm happier being miserable
because it's a fixed state '
No let downs if you don't let yourself hope.. I so get this.. xo shallimar

'It's not love when feelings refuse to die
It's just a refusal of our better natures'

'When a gesture is mistaken for affection
It's a bold mistake repeated many times'

Those lines really stood out to me.
Great write, E. :)

I love this piece, every line, which is ironic cause the poem is not about love. Oh, the beautiful tragedy of not letting anyone in writes a lot of poems under your name. Well done, xxx.

I don't think this is very depressing- rather very real. You spoke the truth, which is painful at times. But as you say, some of us perfer the pain (perhaps because its simpler in a way; easier.) nicely done:) as usual

It's not love when feelings refuse to die its just a refusal of our better nature. Awesome lines, intense poem, depressing yet beautiful in its sadness. Good work
