"Another Kind of Key"

"Another Kind of Key"

A Poem by Steven

Yesterday is fading
like a dollar bill overused,
like names in the sand--
my mind is sponging up
new faces now, new pain,
new voices that sing and talk
louder than the others;
I can't remember how cruel
or kind you were, how old
I was when it disappeared,
when my hands burned
from catching myself
diving forward off my bike,
or how lovely your tongue
felt on mine that first time.
But what I do remember,
and what I will never forget,
is how completely and absolutely
you had me all to yourself.

A precious memory in words. Nice. I thought placing "overused" on a separate line contributed more to rhythm and clarity....but either way, nice way of conveying a memory.

Nice suggestion, man. I think if it wouldn't make that line stand out most in the poem I'd change it.. read more
This had me sigh already this morning. I'm torn between the fading away and the romantic "how lovely your tongue felt on mine for the first time".. the last line ..perfect..xo
