War of Social Circles

War of Social Circles

A Poem by Querida

Sadness flits across her face

Like a raven’s ebon’ wings

Fling it high and far

In the vastness of the heralded sky

Guilt fills her solemn heart

Turning beautiful features to despair

The steal that is committed

Over one not so quite worthy

Results in a temperance of war

As harsh words are exchanged

And in the midst of the struggle

One combatant halts her fury

For in what world is it

That one mere angry word

Erupts a volcano of rageful desires?

One girl refuses to fight

And she voices her disapproval

Of the actions committed by such youth

They heed not her pleadings

And instead continue the battle

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth

The war rages like an untamed beast

Stealing the sensibility of those most wise

And throwing it away like so much trash

The combatants see none shall win

If the war continues as has been seen

They agree on one last fight

The battle to decide the final outcome

And as the armies charge

One prone figure moves to step between

This battle is not fought with guns

Instead harsh words and rumors flow

And the first death on the field of battle

Is the quiet girl who tried to make peace

So it goes in the world of female friendship

And so it says be loud in your protest

For else you may die like the quiet one

A casualty and outcast of the social circles

That make up life as it is known.
