Little Old Lady

Little Old Lady

A Poem by QuietPoet

Little Old Lady

They called to get a patient plate

I got it ready and walked to the front

I looked around and the girl at the desk

Said she was outside

I walked out and there she was

This small little 70 year old woman

I thought, gosh, why is she here..

Suicidal? Is the first thing that came to mind

Usually the older people are

I always looked at her

When she comes to eat

Doesn’t eat much, polite

Warm welcoming, gentle

She always wearing a pink sweater

She’s one of those cute grandma’s

That you see walking across the street

Or in the grocery store

Even the ones with the grandkids

She reminded me of my grandma

A few days went by

And my boss told me that she escaped

She was at the doctor office with our driver

And she went into the bathroom and never came out

I thought to myself, how does a 70 year old woman

Get away and just disappear

I didn’t know she was a court order

What could this little old lady do

To be order to come to a rehab

I’ll probably never find out

But the next day, they found her

At her house, she walked miles

All that walking, for nothing

All the cars that drove by

No one paid any attention

She has a purpose why

And a reason, I want to know

I want to know everything

It kills me not to

I just ask WHY, all the time

And nothing ever gets answered
