Behind the bruises

Behind the bruises

A Poem by R.M.H
"

A short poem I wrote,

"

I walked to them carefully because I saw the bruises and I understood.

As I reached them I whispered because I knew they were shook

As I touched them  they  jumped as I knew they  would,

so I touched them as lightly as I could. A single tear fell down their face,

I could not only see but feel their disgrace.

How could I tell them this isn't their fault all the emotions kept in a vault

They stood there and looked at me deep in thought.

I wanted to tell them that it will be okay but a single word I couldn't say.

We stood there eye to eye not a single word spoken

Oh my goodness how did they become so broken.

To not see their value as they looked in the mirror

The beauty that rested on their face behind the black and blue.

No debt was ever due.

But they didn't know this and I couldn't tell them.

we looked down our hands on the counter and then washed our face

the bruises to still be there

I helped them  put on her make up even though I knew this wasn't through.

I have seen them multiple times a day so close but so far away.

Yes they  are bruised up and broken but their given beauty by God could never be taken away.
