Fake

Fake

A Poem by Rae Marie
"

An ode to highschool from a graduating senior.

"
I don't need your fake smiles
your crystal cold stares
I don't need you to think I'm pretty
or smart or funny or easy
I've heard what you say
when you think I'm not listening
the rumors the lies
you are constantly whispering
Do you think I'm surprised?
Don't explain I don't care
You think you've got it made
but over the years
you've been brainwashed by your own set of rules and I fear
that one day I'll step back from this mirror I'm holding
and wonder if your words were slowly unfolding
the picture I had of the life that I wanted
I'll sit back and know that the cycle has restarted
deep breaths now don't lose it
there's nothing to prove
try to push back the thoughts
don't look under the bed
cuz the demons won't leave
they'll just sit there ignore them
wipe your tears dry your eyes
don't look down chin up high
"oh I'm fine, I'm just tired"
I put on my best
fake smile.
