Hesitate

Hesitate

A Poem by Raef C. Boylan

Tap, tap, tap

Be hospitable, little one;
respond warmly
to the polite, urgent knocking
of a stranger in need.
Be not cautious; lift the latch
from its catch and welcome
them into your life -
whatever they may reveal
themselves to be.

Tap, tap, tap

Now silence…

for nobody
warned the worms
they were the exception
to charity.

Yep,
You only get protection and love if you're a cute furry animal. Worms are slimey and ugly, except to the fish. Rain..

This is brilliant--such weighty matters disguised with child-like simplicity, and the way it boils down to these few words. I am always fascinated by stuff like this.

Thanks for writing,
J.

Well, I'm on here all the time and don't have anything to
put up so don't feel bad.
I liked it, maybe because it's so true,
us and the things we do...
